Testing fortress raid (I)/ Probando el asalto al castillo (I)

CH, Nirkhuz and i went on to test the new mission. Nirkhuz was willing to use his viking miniatures, for which he had created his own list. As they were few in numbers, we decided that we will make a joint wako (japanese pirates)/viking army, bent on raiding a grey dwarf fortress defended by CH. I tweaked the samurai list a little bit (e.g., the wako were samurai with no armour, Ld 7 without Fearless) and we went on the rampage.

Deployment - strangely enough, CH decided to deploy several units outside his fortress

The treasure was protected by a guard of daemons led by a sorcerer

On our part, we had a trebuchet and a pair of ice giants as our biggest punch

A lot of archers in our left flank. They would not do a lot of damage, though. Well, at least they fared better than the trebuchet.

A champion-led unit of grey mithril warriors - not as though as their standard dwarf counterpart, but very dangerous anyway

The dwarven right flank was another champion-led unit of spearmen

End of first turn - a lot of ashigaru pikemen died while the dwarves went almost unscathed

End of second turn - again the pikemen received a lot of wounds...

... and this time they broke and fled!

... y esta vez salieron huyendo!

But at least we took several dwarves with us this time

End of third turn - the units are arriving to close combat...

... and the whole reinforcements of the defender arrive!

It seemed all too bad from our perspective

La cosa pintaba mal desde nuestra perspectiva

But at least we almost annihilated all the left flank and center units. Unfortunately, the ramparts of the fortress were still too far away.

Fifth turn - we are almost there!!!

Quinto turno - ¡ya casi hemos llegado!

On his left flank, the dwarven magician summoned a fire elemental

Sith turn - That was all. Although our troops managed to seize the fortress, there were so few of them left and the enemy was so close that we conceded defeat. If only those troops had arrived one turn later...

Nuevo escenario/new scenario: Fortress Raid/Asalto al Castillo

When looking at the mission list, i could find there was nothing like a raid, so i thought about designing a mission for this kind of action. This scenario involves a force which attacks an enemy position by surprise, trying to loot some treasure and flee away before reinforcements arrive. The rules are as follow:

1) Both players decide which one will be the attacker and which one the defender, and how many points will the armies consist in
2) The attacker player designs a force with as many points as it was agreed beforehand
3) The defender player gets 25% more points to build two armies. Both armies must comply with the 60/40 rules, and he may also buy fortifications (which must be paid with the points of his first army)
4) The defender deploys his first army as in a standard battle, plus he has to put a "treasure token" inside his deployment zone.
5) After the defender deploys his army, the attacker deploys his entire army.
6) By the end of the third turn, roll a die. If a 3 or less is rolled, the second defender's army appears at one of the table's short edges (roll randomly which one). At the start of the next turn, before anything else, the second army is deployed (it cannot shoot or move, but can fight back if engaged). It will fight as normal from the second turn after its deployment. If the roll fails, roll every next turn until either the battle is over or the roll is passed and the reinforcements arrive.

The objective of the game is else to take the treasure off the table via his own edge (for the attacker) or to prevent this (for the defender). Only units (neither individual heroes nor monsters) can transport the treasure alongside them, and they must be in base to base contact at the start of their movement phase in order to do so. The battle lasts until the attacker wins or is destroyed/scattered away.
